Do you have an interpreting assignment check list?

I need to hire some interpreters for a big event we have coming up soon in London but I’ve never worked with interpreters before. Do you have a checklist or other guide which can help me please?

Hi Mildred,

Thanks for your question. I understand that running your first event with interpreters can feel a bit scary but don’t worry, we’ve been helping people do this for over 10 years and are always happy to help with free advice. Just give us a call.

I hope you find the information below useful, don’t forget you can always download a free copy of our guide “Interpreting Without Tears – Your guide to successful interpreting

Which type of interpreter(s) do you need?

All interpreters are not the same. We offer six types of interpreters to suit every need and budget. It is very important that you chose the correct type.

How many interpreters do you need?

Depending upon the type and length of the event, you may need more than one interpreter. Having multiple interpreters is particularly important with simultaneous interpreting assignments as a single translator can only work for about 20 minutes without a break due to the intensity of the task

For how long do you need your interpreter(s)?

Does your event run over several days or outside normal business hours? If so, will you need your interpreter(s) to accompany you in the evening for dinner or social events?

Most interpreters are happy to oblige but need to know in advance to make personal arrangements.

Where is your interpreting event to be held?

We have a comprehensive database of highly skilled and trusted interpreters built-up over many years which means we are usually able to locate an interpreter based near to your event. However, sometimes it is necessary to arrange travel and accommodation which can take time.

The more notice you can give us the better chance we have of finding someone close to you which keeps costs down for everyone.

Which languages do you need your interpreters to work in?

We cover all major business languages and can therefore assign someone who meets your requirements however it is important to understand which language most of the proceedings will be conducted in.

The reason is simple, interpreters are usually much better at interpreting into their mother tongue than they are at interpreting from their mother tongue into a foreign language. Beware of anyone who tries to convince you otherwise!

What depth of specialist knowledge will your interpreter need?

We can supply interpreters who specialise in many disciplines including Law, Technology, Finance and Medical but it is important that we know upfront so that we can select the best individual (or team) for your needs.
