According to recent reports, Carmarthenshire council in Wales has agreed to research the decline of the Welsh language in the county. We examine the reports in today’s video.
An article published on the BBC News website has confirmed that the council have backed a cross-party report aimed at preventing the decline of the Welsh language in Carmarthenshire. It is suggested that councillors have agreed to research the reasons behind the decline as well as identify ways to address the issue. Suggestions are made that education is a key area for action.
A spokesperson for London Translations said recently…
“This report highlights the importance of language as part of a national identity. We are heartened to hear that action is being taken to help arrest the decline in the number of Welsh speakers, as there is a very real risk that without intervention Welsh could be consigned to the history books and we will lose part of the UK’s national heritage”.
