Desktop Publishing

Here at London Translations, we provide an outstanding desktop publishing translation service that guarantees your translated documents will be fit for purpose. Our team of experienced graphic designers work closely with our linguists to give you the best possible service.

What Is DTP Translation?

Desktop publishing (known as DTP) is the process of creating or duplicating documents using page layout software. This typically constitutes the combining and rearranging of text, graphics and photos for documents like brochures, manuals and marketing materials. DTP ensures the end product is ready for hard copy professional printing or electronic display.

DTP translation applies this to translated documents. In these cases, the translated text needs to resemble the original as closely as possible, or else the final product could look unprofessional.

Here at London Translations, our team of experienced translators collaborate closely with graphic designers who specialise in DTP, to ensure that your finished products match your original documents, both linguistically and visually, accurate to the highest possible standards.

We pride ourselves on the exceptional standard of our DTP Translation service, and use the latest software design packages for our work, such as InDesign, FrameMaker and Photoshop, to help ensure the quality of our service. Our DTP translation can be completed in any language, for any type of document.

Do I Need Multilingual Desktop Publishing?

Although DTP Translation is important, it is not always required. A simple document with minimal text may not require DTP at all, whilst more complex content will almost certainly need it.

This is primarily because translating between different languages generally varies the volume of text usedfor instance, English to French can cause the text to expand by 10-15%. Translation can therefore create major issues in documents with an abundance of textor a complex design, as the translated document may not resemble the original, and could have visually unbalanced formatting. This makes DTP translation imperative for this type of content.

You don’t have to worry about these problems with London Translations. Our team of graphic designers have significant experience in maintaining the look of your translated documents, and work closely with our linguistic team to ensure that the final design is both linguistically and visually flawless. They have a strong grasp of the nuances of different DTP software, and will know which will be most suitable for your project.
